Is Hemorrhoid Banding Right for You?

Even if you’ve only experienced hemorrhoids once, you are completely aware of how unpleasant and painful the ordeal can be. Chances are, you’ve looked up some natural at-home remedies or tried an over-the-counter cream to get rid of your hemorrhoids. For some, this may provide mild, temporary relief, but for others, especially those who experience multiple, recurrent hemorrhoids, natural or store-bought remedies are just not enough.

The procedure known as hemorrhoid bandaging (CHR banding) is minimally invasive hemorrhoid treatment procedure that can be done by your gastroenterologist. A small tight rubber band is placed around the internal hemorrhoid tissue, causing the tissue to shrivel up and form a small scar. The result is relief of symptoms like bleeding and swelling.

If you are advised to continue with hemorrhoid banding, your initial appointment with your gastroenterologist will typically consist of a consultation and limited exam. During the visit you may receive a physical examination, and an exam of the inside of the anal/lower rectal area with a short scope to see if the hemorrhoids are suitable for this type of treatment. There is no need for anesthesia, fasting or other preparation. The CRH banding may not be appropriate for all patients. You and your physician will determine an appropriate treatment for your diagnosis during your examination.

If appropriate to band the hemorrhoids, treatment may start during that initial visit. Hemorrhoids are usually in three separate areas just inside the anal opening, and usually the largest, most symptomatic hemorrhoid is banded first. Additional appointments are then scheduled to treat the remaining hemorrhoids at two-week intervals with a final check-up two or more weeks after the last remaining hemorrhoid region is banded.

In end, if you find that your hemorrhoid symptoms are interrupting your life and that natural or store-bought ointments are only providing mild, temporary relief, it’s time to consider hemorrhoid banding. There’s no reason why anyone should have to deal with the pain and discomfort caused by hemorrhoids when a simple, fast and effective solution such as hemorrhoid banding exists.
