New Year, New You? – Motivators for the New Year

January 12, 2018

For many, the new year means a fresh start – it’s often seen as an opportunity to recreate oneself and leave all errors in the past. Unfortunately, majority of new year’s resolutions are abandoned by March, leaving us reverting back to old habits with the promise that next year will be the year of change. We’re here to tell you to stop making excuses and motivate yourself to be the best version of yourself in 2018.

Don’t Wait for the New Year

Everyday is an opportunity to make positive change. Don’t wait for the clock to strike 12 to set your resolutions. Get a headstart before the holidays – create change before you go into the new year. This mindset will carry you further because you are already starting the new year as a more improved you. If you are one of the millions of people whose resolution is to lose weight in the new year, start now! You can start by ditching the sugary latte for a simple cup of coffee and switch out your morning bagel and cream cheese for an egg white and spinach omelette.

Commit to One Goal

Don’t overwhelm yourself with resolutions. Remember this is about self improvement, it should be something to get excited about and look forward to. You are more likely to achieve long-term success if you focus your energy on one goal. With that in mind, be realistic about your resolution and expectations. Depending on your goal, it might take you a little longer to accomplish than others, but if you are working on yourself, that’s a lifetime commitment.

Connect with Others

No matter how big or small the resolution, it can sometimes be difficult to accomplish on your own. If that’s the case for you, find people who share similar goals as you to help motivate one another. Traveling can be a difficult one if you have friends or family who are unable to go on adventures with you, but if travel is on your agenda, look into joining a group travel tour! Interested in staying local? There are plenty of meetup tools that connect people of similar interests.

Tell Your Family and Friends

Simply telling your loved ones about your goal may allow your family and friends to give you the support you need to accomplish your goal. They may also remind you from time to time about your goal and become your motivation to succeed.

Document the Process

Keep a journal of your process. Jot down your setbacks and your accomplishments – this will help you to avoid past mistakes and find what methods work best for you. Place Post-its around your house or workspace to remind yourself of your goals.
